Cedar and Lynx
This bow is a Eastern Red Cedar flat bow with Caribou antler tips, an antler tine arrow rest, and Lynx Fur string silencers. Drawing 24 pounds at 28 inches this bow is 60 inches in length and has wide flat limbs..
The Wood: Eastern Red Cedar is a light weight wood with a pleasant smell. The rich red heartwood contrasts with the cream colored sap wood and makes a beautiful two toned bow. Cedar is extremely rot resistant and shoots well in rainy and humid conditions. Cedar is a soft wood and it is prone to scratches and knicks if used for hard hunting.
The Design: Since Cedar excels in compression strength but not in tension strength I went for wide flat limbs to make a fast shooting and short bow. It is light in the hand and easy to maneuver in the brush. A knot in the lower limb made a hole in the limb that adds unique character to the bow but does not effect performance. A caribou antler tine arrow rest makes for a smooth and consistent arrow rest. At only 24 pounds this is a great small game hunting bow or a target bow that wont tire the archer after hundreds of shots.
Finishing touches: Antler pieces and Lynx fur add a touch of Alaska. I picked these antlers up in the Arctic Circle, and trapped the Lynx in the Kenai Mountains. The two tone color and oiled finish make this possibly the prettiest bow I have ever made.
This bow was made to hunt small game in any weather. Even though it is light, it shoots incredibly fast and is a pleasure to shoot even after a few hundred shots.
