Dark Knight

This is an ebonized Black Walnut long bow. It is 66 inches long and draws 55 pounds at 28 inches.  It is the twin and the bow I made for Tim Wells, a legend in the primitive hunting world.

The Wood: Black Walnut is a dark hardwood that is full of tannins.  A solution of vinegar and steel wool reacts with the tannins making a deep dark finish on the bow.  Walnut is a tension strong wood with deep purple heartwood that made for a pretty two toned handle.

The Design: Long, straight and narrow limbs make for a very accurate bow but tend on the sluggish side.  This bow is modeled after the Cherokee flat bow design and has a very simple rounded handle that is wrapped in Birch Bark.  The extra long limbs act as stabilizers and the wide limbs allow for a heavy draw weight to be spread across the wide belly and limit string follow.

Finishing Touches:  The ebonized finish contrasts with Moose antler Tips and a Birch Bark Handle Wrap. This bow was oiled to keep a dark matte finish and lock out the moisture.

This is a stealthy looking bow that shoots like a sniper rifle.  This is a great bow for someone who hunts in dark timbers or out of a ground blind and prioritizes long accurate shots over speed and maneuverability.
